We are pleased to give you an update on our recent capital campaign. For those of you who are new to our St. Matthew community, we conducted a very successful capital campaign to raise funds to replace and seismically retrofit a new roof for our school building a few years ago. The campaign was called “Raising the Roof ~ Protecting Our Future” (RtR). Just after COVID arrived in the spring of 2020, we completed the First Phase of the RtR campaign, which raised a little over $1.3 million in pledges. This was enough money to complete the work. In fact, through the incredible generosity of our major donors, coupled with cost savings and construction completion under budget, we reached our goal to provide seed money for our church roof which is the Second Phase of the RtR campaign. Below is a quick recap of the details:
For the First Phase, our original goal was $1,500,000 for the school roof and seismic work. Yet, when all the dust settled and the school work was done, our total cost was $779,979!
By early summer of 2020, we had 179 committed donors who pledged almost $1,317,000. Some gifts were one time cash gifts and some were 3 year pledges.
This was great news as we were able to set aside funds for the Second Phase to replace the church roof.
So as of August of this year, we have 59 remaining donors who are in the process of paying their pledges totaling $136,269.
Again, as of the end of August, we have $394,587$ in funds that are restricted and will be dedicated to the Second Phase of the RtR campaign.
By the time all remaining pledges are collected, we expect to have $530,856 in total seed money to kick off the campaign for the replacement and seismic retrofit of the Church Roof. Please know that this is an estimate until all pledges are collected.
In 2019, it was determined that we would need to replace the church roof sometime between 2023 and 2025. The church was built in 1965 and the current roof is 31 years old. The roof was replaced in 1991 with a 25 year warranty. The warranty expired in 2016. St. Matthew patched the roof in 2020 in the hope that would give us time to raise the money to replace the roof. It is our hope to include seismic upgrades with the roof replacement.
For those of you who donated to and are currently paying off your committed pledges, we are deeply grateful. Your generosity is inspirational to all of us. Soon, we will be determining the status of our church roof needs. Watch for updates in the bulletin this fall.
Heavenly Father, we praise you for you are the source of life.We thank you for our church and our school and the many blessings you have given us over the years.
Open our hearts and minds to you and help us to be good stewards of the gifts you have given us.us to be like Mary, always faithful to you.
We especially pray for the success of our capital campaign.our effort, combined with your grace, allow us to serve the people of Hillsboro for generations to come.
