Go Big!
Jesus went big. He worked so hard that sometimes he and his disciples didn’t have time to eat. We get a glimpse of this in today’s Gospel, when we hear that even after Jesus came home, “Again the crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat” Mark (3:20).
When was the last time you were so busy building God’s kingdom and sharing our faith that you didn’t have time to eat? Next time you are tempted to feel down on yourself, think about how hard Jesus worked.
He worked so hard his family thought he was crazy. “When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, ‘He is out of his mind’” (Mark 3:21). His family attempted to guard his time and help him live a balanced life. But Jesus’ goal was never to live a balanced life. Sometimes to fulfill God’s will for our lives, we have to go big, too.
Work is a God-given way through which we provide a roof over our heads, clothes to wear, and food for ourselves and our loved ones. God gave us the gift of work, because we were made to be caretakers of His creation (Genesis 2:15) and providers for our families. We have also been given the gift of faith and of sharing it with everyone around us. We, too, need to “go big,” continuing to build God’s kingdom through sharing our faith with everyone we work with and meet throughout our lives.
Jesus wasn’t a workaholic. He knew when to rest and he knew when to retreat with his disciples. Yet Jesus always lived by the motto, Go big!
Use the life and gifts God has given you to serve him with all you have. Go big!
